03.02 Subtotals & Grand Totals

Overview

It is often useful to able to see a Grand Total on a report either on the bottom row, or on the rightmost column.

Similarly, as the user reads down the page of a report, it is often useful to be able to insert a line of subtotals when the selection within a particular dimension of the down axis changes.

FastClose includes a subtotalling engine that can be used to rapidly add these

Here is a video, or read below.

Totals

Switch to the “Insert” tab, and select “Totals & Subtotals”…

Grand Totals

A Grand Total row can be added to the bottom of a report by ticking the “Grand Total” box.

Similarly, a Grand Total column can be added to the right hand side of a report by switching to the “Column Totals” tab and ticking the “Grand Total” box there.

Selecting both would produce a result that looks like this:

Sub Totals

Subtotals are most commonly applied to the down axis, though they can also be applied to the across axis if desired.

In the configuration below subtotals are configured such that every time the member selected changes in the Company or Division dimensions, a subtotal row will be injected.

This leads to data displayed as below:

1f778790-f726-4276-bc7f-09fa006536f4

It can be seen that each time the selected item changes in the Division dimension (and at the end), a subtotal row is injected that totals up all the rows above since the last time the dimension selection changed.

Similarly at the bottom as we are also totalling on Company, all the rows since the last change of Company are totalled, which in this case as it’s a Trial Balance report, nets out to zero.
